Walla Walla College "Rogers" Site Planning |
College Place, Washington |
This project presented a challenge: provide for expansion of an existing college campus, joining together two existing developed campus areas on separate city blocks. In addition, considerable parking was needed to satisfy peak parking demand during church services and sporting events without overwhelming the neighborhood with empty parking lots for daily use and maintaining the pedestrian orientation of the campus. The solution creates a new, irregularly-shaped quadrangle that knits together existing athletic facilities and academic and ecclesiastical buildings. Parking is placed so that it is easily accessed by the peak-demand destinations, church and gymnasium, but is screened by existing and new trees and focus remains on the pedestrian campus. |
